Decision to be taken after assessing impact of Cyclone Remal

The decision to cancel the third phase of upazila election, slated for May 29, would be taken after measuring the extent of damage in the areas concerned caused by the cyclone Remal.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam told this while responding to questions from journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon area of the capital on Sunday.
He said they are in contact with the field level. Decisions will be taken once the cyclone Remal made its landfall and measuring entire situation EC will take decision. 

The EC secretary informed the media that the commission has decided to cancel the candidature of two persons-- Abu Ahmed Chowdhury, chairman candidate for Chandnaish upazila in Chattogram District, and Md Emdadul Haque, chairman candidate for Pabna's Ishwardi upazila, in third phase of upazila elections.


He said the two chairman candidates were summoned for explanation on Sunday.
