CHANDPUR, May 27: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing his former wife in Hajiganj Upazila in 2017.
Chandpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Sahedul Karim handed down the verdict.
The convict is Hazrat Ali, 30, a resident of Kirtankhola Village in the upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, and in default, he has to suffer seven more years in jail.
Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, Hazrat Ali slaughtered his ex-wife Mitu on July 23, 2017, one year after their divorce.
The deceaseds mother Rabeya Begum lodged a murder case with Hajiganj Police Station against Hazrat Ali on July 24, 2017.
Police, later, submitted the charge-sheet against him to the court on July 18, 2018.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Sunday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
