Army Chief of Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said on Monday "The Bangladesh Army never violated human rights. We strongly condemn the malicious DW documentary,"
Inaugurating Asia-Pacific Peace Operations Training Centre in Rajendrapur Cantonment he said, "Well give a befitting reply to the conspirators by continuing our UN peacekeeping duty maintaining the highest level of patriotism and professionalism."
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) dismissed as "false" the recent DW documentary titled "Torturers deployed as UN peacekeepers."
It said the documentary presented a misleading portrayal of Bangladesh Army personnel in UN peacekeeping missions.
In the rejoinder, the ISPR said Bangladesh Army rigorously follows the UNs stringent selection and vetting protocols to ensure that only the most qualified and thoroughly vetted personnel are deployed.
These measures underscore the Armys commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism in peacekeeping missions.
The ISPR said that DW did not seek comments from the Bangladesh Army regarding the allegations presented in the documentary.
Such lack of objective reporting raises concerns about DW and its reporting standards, said the ISPR in the rejoinder.
It is pretty clear that the documentary was focused on defaming Bangladesh by using irrelevant video footage. It was totally a biased projection, which largely affected the credibility of the documentary. It also raised questions about the motive behind it, the ISPR said.
Bangladeshi peacekeepers earned reputation for their dedication, professionalism, and humanitarian approach. A total of 131 Bangladesh Army personnel have made supreme sacrifice and 239 sustained injuries while serving under the UN flag, embodying the spirit of selflessness and commitment to global peace.
