The low-lying and Haor areas of 13 unions in Sylhet's Gowainghat upazila were inundated by flash floods due to heavy rains and upstream water on Wednesday.
As the Salutikor-Goainghat went under water, communication of other areas with Goainghat upazila has been cut off.
Two points on Sarighat-Gowainghat road and Shimultola point of Gowainghat –Radhanagar-Jaglong road were also submerged.
Besides, hundreds of people were stranded in Haor areas.
Rustampur, Lengura, Doubari, Nandirgaon union, Purba Alirgaon and Pashchim Alirgaon, Pashchim Jaflong areas were also flooded.
According to Water Development Board, the water of the Sari River was flowing above the danger level at Gowainghat and Sarighat points.
However, local administration asked people of the flood-hit areas to relocate to safer places with their belongings.
Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Touhidul Islam said already 56 shelter centres have been prepared in 13 unions and the people in risky areas have been asked to move to the shelters.
