Eight killed, 17 injured in road accidents

Eight people have been killed and at least 17 others injured in separate road accidents in seven districts - Naogaon, Sirajganj, Chuadanga, Brahmanbaria, Dinajpur, Sylhet and Lalmonirhat, in three days.
PORSHA, NAOGAON: A retired deputy assistant livestock official was killed and another injured in a road accident in Porsha Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The accident took place near Porsha Government College on the Sutrail-Nitpur road of the upazila at around 9 am.
The deceased was identified as Amirul Islam, 63, a resident of Nitpur area.
The injured person is Daud Ali, 25, son of Rashid of Aladipur Haripur Village under Sapahar Upazila in the district.
It was known that after his retirement, Amirul Islam worked as a veterinary doctor, and used to visit sick livestock animals in various areas along with Daud Ali riding on a motorcycle. At around 9 am on Saturday, the two were returning Nitpur after finishing work. On the way, the motorcycle collided with a fox on the Sutrail-Nitpur road near Porsha Government College, which left motorcycle driver Daud and its pillion rider Amirul fall on the road and got seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took Amirul to Porsha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) following the deterioration of his condition.
Later on, Amirul succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Daud is currently undergoing treatment at Sapahar Upazila Health Complex.     
SIRAJGANJ: Two people were killed and three others injured after a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The accident took place on the Sirajganj-Raiganj regional highway in Alokdia area under Bahuli Union of the upazila at around 9:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Abu Ubaida, 24, son of Abu Talha, a resident of Muktargati Village under Bahuli Union in Sadar Upazila, and Mohadeb Saha, 60, hailed from Haat Pangasi Village under Pangasi Union in Raiganj Upazila of the district.
Police and local sources said that a speedy truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction while it was going towards Raiganj Upazila from Sirajganj Town at around 9:30 pm, which left its two passengers dead on the spot and three others critically injured.
On information, police rescued the injured and recovered the bodies of the deceased from the scene, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station (PS) Md Sirajul Islam.
The injured were admitted to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital and the bodies of the deceased were kept at the hospital morgue for autopsies, said the OC.
Of the injured, the condition of Jharna Rani, 50, wife of the deceased Mohadeb Saha, was stated to be      critical.  
However, the truck driver along with his assistant managed to flee the scene soon after the accident leaving the vehicle behind.
Moreover, police have also seized the both vehicles involved in the accident and legal actions will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
CHUADANGA: A young man was killed in a road accident while returning home after purchasing a motorcycle in Damurhuda Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place at around 5:30 pm in front of the tea stall of one Ashraful Islam in Uzirpur area on the Chuadanga-Darshana road under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Hasabul Mallik, 25, son of Yakub Mallik, a resident of Khalishagari Village under Natudah Union in Damurhuda Upazila.
Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Damurhuda Model PS Mahbubur Rahman said Hasabul was returning home after buying a Pulsar motorcycle from a market in Alamdanga of the district in the afternoon. When he reached near Ashraful Islams tea stall in Uzirpur area on the Chuadanga-Darshana road at around 5:30 pm, Hasabul fell on the road after losing control over the steering of the motorcycle, which left him seriously injured.
Later on, locals rescued the injured and took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the SI added.
BRAHMANBARIA: Two young men were killed and two others injured in a collision between a pickup van and an auto-rickshaw in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The accident took place on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Suhilpur area of the upazila at around 10:30 am.
The deceased were identified as Shamsu Mia, 24, son of Nurul Islam of Sutiara Village under Budhal Union in Sadar Upazila, and Mithun Mia, 28, son of Alauddin Mia, a resident of Chandiara Village under the same union.
Quoting locals, Brahmanbaria Sadar PS OC Aslam Hossain said a CNG-run auto-rickshaw with passengers was heading towards Sadar Upazila from Khatihata area in the morning. On the way, a speedy pickup van coming from the opposite direction rammed the auto-rickshaw on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Suhilpur area, which left its two passengers dead on the spot and two others critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
The injured were rescued and also taken to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for treatment.
However, the pickup van driver managed to flee the scene soon after the accident.
Efforts are going on to arrest the pickup van driver and legal actions would be taken further, the OC added.
CHIRIRBANDAR, DINAJPUR: A man was killed and his minor son injured in a road accident in Chirirbandar Upazila of the district on Thursday evening.
The accident took place in Uchitpur area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway under the upazila at around 6:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 35, son of late Fazlur Rahman, a resident of Chakmusha Village under Punatti Union in the upazila.
The injured child is Omayed Islam, 4, son of the deceased.  
Police and local sources said Shariful along with his son Omayed was going towards Ambari area from Amtali Bazar in the upazila in the evening riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle in Uchitpur area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway at around 6:30 pm, leaving Shariful dead on the spot and his son injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as per their request.
The injured child was rescued by locals and admitted to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
However, locals seized the killer truck and caught its driver Shakil, 24, son of Ibrahim of Hariharpur Village under Sadar Upazila in Thakurgaon District. They then handed him over to the police.  
Chirirbandar PS OC Md Abul Hasnat Khan confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with the PS and legal action would be taken in this regard.
SYLHET: At least seven people were injured after a passenger-laden bus fell into a roadside ditch after losing its control over the steering in Zakiganj Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The accident took place on the Ramargram-Ratanganj road in Phultali area under the upazila at around 3:30 pm.
Quoting locals, Zakiganj PS OC Jabed Masud said a bus, carrying 20 to 25 passengers, suddenly fell into a roadside ditch in Phultali area in the afternoon while heading towards Sylhet, which left at least seven people injured.
On information, police and local people rescued the injured and admitted them to nearby hospitals.
Of the injured, one was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, the OC added.
LALMONIRHAT: The imam of a local mosque was killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Aditmari Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The accident took place on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in Madanpur area under Palashi Union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Mazidul Islam, 40, son of Aminur Rahman, a resident of Mandalpara area under Sarpukur Union in the upazila. He was the imam of Jamurtari Chawhara Jame Mosque.
Member of Ward No. 7 Sarpukur Union Parishad (UP) Md Abdul Aziz said Mazidul Islam along with his family was going to Rangpur at noon riding on an auto-rickshaw. On the way, the auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch after losing its control over the steering while giving side to a truck in Madanpur area under Palashi Union, which left four people including Mazidul and his wife Sharmin critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Mazidul Islam dead, the UP member added.
Aditmari PS OC Mahmud Un Nabi confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
