BARISHAL, June 2: A total of 1,80,481 farmer families suffered setback due to Cyclone Remal in six districts of the division.
This information was confirmed by the office of the additional director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE)-Barishal Zone on Wednesday (May 29) noon.
A letter stating the damages was sent by the DAE office to the Barishal Divisional office.
The affected farmer families included about 1, 70,000 families of marginal, small and medium farmers.
Tidal surge and heavy rainfall partially damaged 90,798 hectares (ha) of croplands while 2,789 ha of crops were completely damaged.
Of the partially damaged crops, 15,489 ha of crops are likely to be damaged totally.
The total complete crop damages will stand at 18,209 ha.
Damaged crops include Aush (seedbeds and crops), ground nut, chilli, mug pulse, sesame, vegetables, jute, betel leaf, banana, papaya and different fruits.
Crop damages likely to be about 1.70 lakh tonnes.
