SATKHIRA, June 2: Members of Kobatak Forest Station Office in Satkhira Range have rescued three fishermen, who went missing seven days back while fishing in the Sundarban due to Cyclone Remal.

They were rescued from a tall tree in the Nishinkhali Canal area of Sundarban at around 7 am on Saturday.

The three rescued fishermen are: Saidur Rahman, 42, son of Babur Ali, Haider Ali, 30, son of Hazrat Ali, and Liton, 30, son of Golam Rabbani. All of them are residents of Chandipur area of Shyamnagar Upazila.

On May 25 last, the fishermen entered the Sundarbans with permission of fishing from the Kobatak Forest Station in the Satkhira Range, and on May 26, they disappeared due to Cyclone Remal.

Kobatak Forest Station Officer Mobarak Hossain said being informed about their disappearance, a team of the Forest Station rescued the fishermen from Nishinkhali Canal area on Saturday morning after conducting a long search.

The fishermen were then handed over to their families.

Haider Ali, one of the three fishermen, said that their boat sank due to the strong waves in the river under the influence of the cyclone. At that time, they climbed up to the Sundarban and took shelter in a big tree.

Since then, they were living by eating fruits.
