A four-day long national workshop on Intellectual Property Fundamentals for Brand Designing began at Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal inaugurated the workshop as chief guest at Osman Jamal Auditorium of Fine Arts Faculty on the campus. "We are living in an era of knowledge economy, innovation, new concept and new product," said Prof Kamal, stressing the need for more attention to fundamental research and innovation.
He urged the university faculties, researchers and students to study the laws and policies of intellectual property rights to protect their innovation and idea.
DU Fine Arts Faculty, Patent, Design and Trademarks Department of the Industries Ministry and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) jointly organised the event with support from Japan Patent Office (JPO).
Faculty Dean Prof Nisar Hossain presided over the inaugural function of the workshop.
WIPOs Asia Pacific Division Director Andrew Michael Ong, Foreign Ministry Director General Faiyaz Murshid Kazi and Industries Ministrys Patents, Designs and Trademarks Department Director Kaisir Mohammad Moinul Hasan attended the programme as special guests. Faculties, alumni and students of the Fine Arts Faculty are participating in the workshop.
