Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) RAB detained arrested five people with locally-made weapons while trying to rob tourists in Jhau Bon area Cox's Bazar beach on Sunday night.
The detainees were Md Ferdous, 39, of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila, Mizanur Rahman, 34, of Kalatali area of Cox's Bazar, Md Ismail Prakash Shatabdi, 24, of Baharchhara union, Md Solaiman Bacchu, 31, of Dakshin Ghonar Para and Md Foisal, 21, of Light House area.
RAB-15 Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abu Salam Chowdhury, said acting on a tip-off a team of RAB conducted the drive in the area and detained them with two locally-made weapons, one sewing range, one dual LED torch light, one big knife, and two motorcycles.
He said during primary interrogation, the detainees admitted their involvement in robbing local and foreign tourists by brandishing weapons at different points of Cox's Bazar.
A case has been filed in this regard with the Cox's Bazar Sadar police station, he added.
