An alleged robber was killed reportedly in a gunfight between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and drug peddlers along Naikhongchhari frontier in Bandarban district early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nizam, an alleged robber of Khurushkul union in Cox's Bazar district.
Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, said a patrol team of BGB challenged a group of drug peddlers led by Nizam around 5 am. At that time, the drug peddlers opened fired on the motorbike of the BGB personnel.
At one stage, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight at Morichhaya area in the bordering area.
According to the BGB, acting on a tip-off, the BGB members in a drive seized 98 cartoons of Burmese Cigarettes and 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills.
However, the BGB confirmed that a man was injured during the gunfight.
