MYMENSINGH, June 3: Police recovered the decapitated body of a university student from inside a luggage in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The luggage was recovered from the Sutia River under the Montala Bridge on the Mymensingh-Tangail highway of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruq Sourav, son of Yusuf, a resident of Tarati Village under Maijbag Union in Ishwarganj Upazila of the district. He was a BBA student of Jagannath University in Dhaka.
Police sources said locals spotted the luggage and a blood-stained head wrapped in paper while they were feeding their cows beside the river at around 10 am and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body, severed in four parts and stuffed in a luggage, at noon.
Calling the incident a planned murder, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Mymensingh Sadar Circle Shahinul Islam Fakir said, "It looks like the killers might have severed the deceaseds throat and legs with a cutting machine, and then they filled the parts in the luggage and threw it in the river. They also left the head of the body in a jute field as there was no space in the luggage for that."
Immediately after the body was recovered, police started investigation and efforts are going on to identify the killers, the ASP added.
