Farmer stabbed to death for protesting against drugs

A farmer was stabbed to death allegedly by a drug addict youth when he protested against drugs consuming at Singair upazila in Manikganj district on Thursday morning.

The victim Jinnat Mia, 50, a resident of Baguli area in Chandahar union of the upazila, passed away on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital's Savar.
According to police and local sources, the accused Babul Mia, known for his drug addiction, was a neighbor of Jinnat Ali. Despite repeated warnings from his parents and neighbors, Babul continued his drugs use. Jinnat Ali, in an attempt to help, repeatedly advised Babul to quit drugs.

When individual efforts failed, the community collectively reprimanded Babul. Enraged by this intervention, Babul attacked Jinnat with a sharp weapon around 9 PM on Tuesday and fled the scene.

Locals rushed Jinnat to Singair Upazila Health Complex, but the physicians transferred him to a private hospital in Savar due to his critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning.

Confirming the matter, Singair Police Station investigating officer Sheikh Muhammad Abu Hanif said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
