A woman, who was reportedly informant for law enforcement, was brutally murdered and buried after identifying the house of a notorious drug dealer at Birulia area in the capital's Savar upazila.

Police have recovered the decomposed body of Sima Begum, 42, who hailed from Munshikadirpur village in Madaripur's Shibchar upazila and wife of Jahangir Khan, from near Swapan’s house at Khonijanagar area in Birulia union.
The incident occurred following a police raid where Hamid Mondal, the president of the local Jubo league, and the wife of drug dealer Swapan, were arrested by the a team Detective Branch of Police (DB) of Dhaka North.

Following the raid, angered by Sima's cooperation with the police, other drug dealers abducted her from her home on June 2.

The Detective Police (DB) reported that they were conducting a shadow investigation alongside the police official after Sima went missing.

Eventually, tipped-off, they arrested a known drug dealer Saiful Islam from Imandipur area in the upazila. While interrogating him, Saiful confessed to his involvement in the murder and provided information leading to the discovery of Sima Begum’s body.

Sima Begum’s daughter, Tania Akter, recounted that on May 13, a DB police team raided Swapan’s house, arresting his wife and Hamid Mondal with drugs while Swapan managed to escape. A few days later, Sima informed her over the phone that Swapan had arranged some people to kill her.

Two days later, Sima went missing, and her body was found near Swapan’s house.

Tania Akter also accused Swapan, along with Rezaul and Saiful, of kidnapping and murdering her mother, then burying her beside Swapan’s house out of revenge.

Dhaka North DB Inspector Riaz Uddin Ahmed Biplob confirmed that Sima Begum had been an informant for RAB, police, and various law enforcement agencies, assisting in drug recoveries.

Upon her disappearance, they launched a shadow investigation and arrested Saiful Islam, who admitted his direct involvement in the murder.

The inspector also stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest others involved in the murder.
