16 nabbed with drugs in 10 districts

A total of 16 people including six women have arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 10 districts - Sherpur, Rajshahi, Noakhali, Narayanganj, Nilphamari, Barishal, Rajbari, Gaibandha, Jamalpur and Rangamati, in recent times.
 
NALATIBARI, SHERPUR: Members of Department Narcotics Control (DNC), in a drive, arrested a female drug dealer along with 102 yaba tablets from Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Friday morning.

The arrested woman is China Khatun, 34, wife of Faruq Hossain, a resident of Baromari Bazar area in the upazila.

DNC sources said on information, a team of District DNC led by its Inspector Siddiqur Rahman conducted a drive in Baromari Bazar area at around 8 am, and detained China Khatun along with the yaba tablets.

China Khatun along with her husband Faruq Hossain has been involved in drugs dealing in the area for long.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Faruq Hossain fled away at that time.

However, a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against the couple with Nalitabari Police Station (PS) in this regard.

District DNC Inspector Siddiqur Rahman confirmed the matter, adding that drives are going on nab Faruq Hossain.

RAJSHAHI: Police arrested an alleged female drug peddler along with eight kilograms of hemp from Munsipara area in the city on Wednesday evening.

The arrested woman is Parul Begum, 42, hails from Mandari Village under Chauddagram Upazila in Cumilla District.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) confirmed the news in a press release on Thursday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers from Kashiadanga PS conducted a drive in Horgram Munsi Para area at around 7 pm, and arrested Parul Begum. At that time, police recovered eight kilograms of hemp from her possession, it said.

Later on, she was sent to jail following a court order after filing of a case against her under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS, the RMP press release added.

NOAKHALI: Police, in a drive, arrested a drug peddler along with 13 kilograms of hemp from Begumganj Upazila in the district on Wednesday evening.

The arrested man is Nur Mohammad, 55, a resident of East Maizsora Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.

Police sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of Chandraganj Highway Police conducted a drive in Kendurbag Bazar area on the Noakhali-Laxmipur highway in the evening, and arrested Nur Mohammad along with the drugs.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Begumganj PS, the arrested was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj PS Md Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter.

NARAYANGANJ: Detective Branch (DB) of Police, in a drive, arrested a drug dealer along with 100 bottles of phensedyl and 50 kilograms of hemp from Siddhirganj PS area in the city corporation on Tuesday night.

The arrested person is Md Rana Main Uddin alias Hasan, 29, son of Monzil Hossain, a resident of Pachthubi Gola Bari Keraninagar area under Kotwali PS in Cumilla District.

Superintend of Police (SP) in Narayanganj Golam Mostafa Russell confirmed the information in a press release on Wednesday.

The SP said on information that a covered van carrying a huge consignment of drugs was standing near Nurunessa Market in Signboard area under Siddhirganj PS in the city corporation, a team of District DB Police conducted a drive there at night and detained Md Rana Main Uddin alias Hasan along with the phensedyl and the hemp.

Two more drug dealers managed to flee the scene after sensing the presence of the law enforcers at that time.   

The fugitive drug dealers were identified as Billal Hossain Roni, 32, and Md Shahin alias Star Shahin, 35.

All of the three used to buy hemp and phensedyl from Cumilla and sell those in different areas under Narayanganj, Dhaka and Gazipur districts.

However, a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Siddhirganj PS in this regard, the SP added.

JALDHAKA, NILPHAMARI: Police, in a drive, arrested two people along with five kilograms of hemp from Jaldhaka Upazila in the district on Monday.

The arrested persons are: Md Safin Islam, 28, son of Anisur, and Md Jahirul Islam, 45, son of late Osman Goni. Both of them are residents of Uttar Jhunagachh Chapani area under Jhunagachh Chapani Union in Dimla PS of the district.
 
Police sources said on information, a team of the law enforcers led by Jaldhaka PS OC Md Nazrul Islam Majumder set up a check-post on the Balagram to Jaldhaka road in Ward No. 4 Balagram area under Balagram Union of the upazila at dawn.

At around 5:45 am, the law enforcers halted a motorcycle on suspicion. Then the police arrested Safin Islam and Jahirul Islam along with the hemp worth about Tk 50,000 and seized their motorcycle.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Jaldhaka PS against the arrested persons in this regard.

Jaldhaka PS OC Md Nazrul Islam Majumder confirmed the matter, adding that such drives will continue to keep the upazila free from drugs abuse.

BARISHAL: DB Police, in a drive, arrested two female drug peddlers along with six kilograms of hemp from Bakerganj Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested women are: Salma Akhter Lipi, 35, daughter of Shakhawat Hossain, a resident of Ward No. 8 under Bagerhat Municipality; and Arifa Akhter, 19, of Haruadanga Village under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat District.

Police sources said on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Sadar Road area under Bakerganj Municipality, and arrested the two women along with the hemp.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Bakerganj PS, the arrested women were handed over to the police.

Bakerganj PS OC Afzal Hossain confirmed the matter, adding that the arrested duos were sent to jail following a court order.

RAJBARI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three drug peddlers along with 84 bottles of phensedyl from Baliakanda Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested men are Mirajul Islam, 24, hails from Chuadanga District; and Abu Sayed Abdullah, 44, and Md Khokon Mia, 42, residents of Jhenidah District.

RAB-10 sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force from Faridpur Camp conducted a drive in Baliakanda PS area and arrested the trio along with the phensedyl.

Lt Commander KM Shaikh Akhtar, company captain of RAB-10 in Faridpur, said a total of 84 bottles of phensedyl, two motorcycles and one mobile phone set were seized from their possession.

During the initial questioning, the arrested persons admitted themselves as drug peddlers. They had been collecting drugs from different bordering areas of country and supplying those across the country as well as Baliakanda in the district.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Baliakanda PS, the arrested were later handed over to the police, the RAB official added.

SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA: Police arrested two drug peddlers along with hemp from Sadullapur Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested persons are: Nizam Uddin, 46, hails from Kurigram District, and Milon Mia, 36, hails from Keraniganj in Dhaka.

Police sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Daparhat area and searched a Dhaka-bound stone-laden truck.

Later on, police found 20 kilograms of hemp in the truck and arrested them.

Sadullapur PS OC Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with the PS against the arrested.      

JAMALPUR: DB Police arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member along with hemp from Melandah Upazila in the district recently.
Police arrested him from his house in Sultankhali Village of the upazila.

The arrested man is Md Bellal Sheikh, 45, a resident of the area. He is a UP member of Durmut Union.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB Police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the UP member from his house. Police also recovered 40 kilograms of hemp from his possession.

District DB Police OC Kazi Shahnewaz Imon confirmed the matterm adding that a case was filed against Bellal with the Melandah PS under the Narcotics Control Act.  

KAPTAI, RANGAMATI: Police arrested two female drug peddlers along with 50 litres of liquor from Chandraghona PS area in Kaptai Upazila of the district recently.

The arrested women are Lavli Begum, 29 and her younger sister Munni Begum, 16, residents of Nowapara area in Alikadam Upazila.

Police sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Bangalhalia area under Chandraghona PS and arrested them along with the drugs.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Chandraghona PS, the arrested women were produced before the court.
