4,613 edn instts not under MPO, says Minister

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury on Sunday said that currently there are 4,613 non-MPO educational institutions in the country.

He said, in the light of the manpower structure of private educational institutions (schools and colleges), MPO Policy-2021, desired number of students, pass rate, availability and required qualifications, educational institutions are brought under MPO. It is an ongoing process.

"MPO enrollment is currently being done digitally through automation. Educational institutions without MPOs across the country are included in MPOs through notification from time to time by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education," the Minister said.

He said the government has no plans to include any new educational institution under MPO as there is less than one month left of the current financial year.

Mohibul said this in response to a question by ruling partys Parliament Member M Abdul Latif in the budget session of the National Parliament.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

In response to another question, the Education Minister said, "The government is sincere in solving the problem of delay in providing the teachers of private schools and colleges with pensions and welfare allowances. Due to inadequate financial resources in this sector, it is mainly taking more time and creating problems."

"In the meeting of the Standing Committee related to the Education Ministry, it was discussed extensively how to provide the teachers due money as soon as possible. The Secondary and Higher Education Department has formed a committee to solve the problem and it has started working on it," the Minister added.
