Separate courts in four days sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment in different murder cases in two districts - Rajshahi and Khulna.  

RAJSHAHI: Three persons were sentenced to life-term imprisonment for killing a van-puller in the district in 2020.

District Prevention of Public Safety Violation Tribunal Judge Muhammad Saifur Rahman Siddiqui found them guilty in the murder charge and handed down the verdict on Sunday.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, and in default, they will have to suffer six more months in jail.

The condemned convicts are: Minarul Islam, 43, son of Rustam Ali, Masud Rana, 38, son of Mokshed Ali, and Jewel, 35, son of Imrul Kayesh. All of them are residents of Askerpur Village under Charghat Upazila in the district.

According to the prosecution, the trio armed with sharp weapons attacked on van-puller Jalal Uddin, 45, and chopped him indiscriminately in Askerpur area on October 9, 2020. Promptly, they decamped with his battery-operated van leaving behind him in a pool of blood.

Hearing the sound of his groaning, locals rescued the victim and took him to Charghat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Manik Hossain, son of the deceased, lodged a murder case with Charghat Model Police Station (PS) the next day.

Upon completion of investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against the three accused.

Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Sunday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.

KHULNA: A court in the district sentenced a youth to life-term imprisonment for killing Khan Zahid Hasan, ex-chairman of Fakirhat Sadar Union Parishad in Bagerhat, and his driver Munna on May 18, 2013.

Khulna Additional District and Sessions Court-3 Judge Tasnim Zohora passed the verdict on Thursday in presence of the convict Md Alamgir Hossain alias Bagha.

The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000, and in default, he has to suffer two more years rigorous imprisonment.

The court also acquitted 11 others as the charges brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, on May 18 in 2013, the convict gunned down Zahid Hasan and his car driver Munna in Kudir Battala area under Rupsha Upazila on his way back to Fakirhat from Khulna City.

A case was filed against 12 people including Bagha with Rupsha PS in this regard.

After investigation, Inspector of Khulna Detective Branch of Police Rokonuzzaman submitted the charge-sheet to the court against the 12.

Following this, the court pronounced the verdict after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
