International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) President Humayun Rashid said on Tuesday the budget proposed for 2024-25  lacked guidelines to achieve Smart Bangladesh.

Speaking at a discussion,  Budget 2024-25 Expecta-tions and Achievements at the IBFB office in Tejgaon, Rashid described the proposed budget as realistic and implementable.

He, however, said that  good governance and effective monitoring were needed to implement the proposed budget.

He said clear direction, strategic planning, and stronger public-private partnerships would be needed to implement budget.

The proposed budget seeks to keep inflation at  6.5 percent, down from 9.89 per cent in May.  Rashid warned that keeping inflation at 6.5 per cent would be a challenge and cautioned that rising inflation would affect common people.

He said that the countrys macroeconomic indicators and revenue collection were under pressure due to global economic realities.

The proposed budget set revenue collection goal  at Tk 5.41 trillion.

Dr Mohammad Abdul Majeed, former NBR Chairman and IBFB advisor said legalising undisclosed income could encourage new taxpayers to pay tax to boost revenue collection.
