An
ARSA commander was killed reportedly during a gunfight between a gang of criminals and Armed Police Battalion (
APBn) at Camp 19 of
Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place in the morning at block No. 4 of the camp under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Monaf, 26, son of Azim Ullah, a resident of the block.
Citing locals, it was known that Abdul Monaf was one of the top leaders of the militant outfit Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), and a top terror of the camp, said APBn officials. He was accused in several cases, including murder and firearms, and remained absconding for a long time.
Confirming the matter, Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Shamim Hossain said they were informed about the gunfight, but it could not be ascretained which fire hit the victim to death.
On information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
