Handicapped man murdered over land dispute in Natore


A handicapped man was killed reportedly by his brother-in-law over a land dispute at Gurudaspur upazila in Natore district on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place around 7:30am on Wednesday in Bri-Pathuria village under Chapila union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Jamat Ali, 55, a resident of the aforesaid area.

However, police have arrested the accused and brother-in-law of the victim, Mohammad Lachimuddin Jadu, 65, in connection with the murder.

According to Jameena, the mother of the deceased, there was conflict between Lachimuddin and the victim Jamat over a piece of a land ever since her husband's death. Lachimuddin, who lived with them after marrying into the family, frequently threatened Jamat Ali to take over the property.

Jamat Ali had been paralyzed and suffering from heart disease for the past ten years.

On Wednesday morning, Lachimuddin allegedly entered Jamat Ali's room and began to beat him severely. He was assisted by his daughter Lipi Khatun, 42, and son Lam Hossain, 23.

Locals rescued Jamat Ali and rushed to the nearby hospital, but he succmbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Jameena has demanded the death penalty for all those involved in her son's murder.

Gurudaspur Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Ujjal Hossain said upon receiving the information, they retrieved the body and sent it to a hospital morgue for autopsy.

Lachimuddin has been arrested, and legal proceedings are underway, added the OC.
