6 people, 4 cattle killed in road accidents

At least six people were killed and several others were injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Chapainawabganj and Cumilla on Wednesday.

In Dhaka, three people were killed in two separate road accidents at Gabtoli in the capital. In one of the accidents, Shafiqul Islam Sujon, 47, and Abul Hashem, 38, died.
Besides, one Babul, 40, died in another road accident in the same area on the same day.

At about 5:30am on Wednesday (June 12), motorcycle riders Shafiqul and Hashem were killed being rammed by a speeding truck on the road in front of Ruposhi Bangla Hotel at Gabtoli.

At about 6:30am on that day, one Babul, 40, a staff of a bus, was killed being hit by a CNG-run autorickshaw near European University in Gabtoli. Darus Salam Police Station Inspector (Operations) Md Asaduzzaman confirmed it.

He said three people died in two separate road accidents at Gabtoli area. However, though one was killed on the spot just after the accident, two died while underwent treatment at the hospitals. Among them, Babul died at Neuroscience Hospital at Agargaon after being admitted there with injuries.

The Inspector also said between the two motorcycle riders, one was driver and other was passenger. Driver Shafiqul died on the spot during the accident, while passenger Abul Hashem died at Shaheed Suhrawardi Hospital later on. The bodies of three deceased were sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardi Hospital morgue for postmortem on completion of legal processes, the police official said.

Our Chapainawabganj Correspondent added that a three years old boy was killed when a battery-operated van hit him in Gomastapur upazila in  Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kawsar Ali, 3, son of Ismail Hossain, a resident of Nandalalpur village of the upazila.

Police said the accident  took place when a battery-run auto van hit Kawsar as he was crossing the road in front of his house around 11:00 am.

Seriously injured Kawsar was rushed to the Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead.

 Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gomostapur Police Station Chowdhury Zobayer Ahammad confirmed the matter.

Our Cumilla Correspondent reports two people were killed and four others were injured after a cattle-laden truck overturned at Daudkandi Upazila of Cumilla district on Wednesday morning.

Among the victims, one was identified as Rasel, 30, son of Jamal Mia of Laksham upazila. He was a businessman.
