A female garment worker was allegedly stabbed to death by miscreants in Gazipur's Konabari on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Bimile bridge of the Gazipur-Tangail highway.
The victim was Rubaia, 23, wife of Masud Rana, hailed from Sherpur's Jhenaigati upazila, used to live in Parizat area under Konabari Police Station.

Gazipur Metropolitan's Konabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Roknuzzaman said Rubaia used to work in a garment factory in Basan area. She was returning her rented house by a battery-powered auto-rickshaw after leaving the factory around 8 pm. At that time, there were two other passengers in that auto. When their auto-rickshaw reached Bimile Bridge, three young men on motorcycles stopped the auto-rickshaw and started argument with Rubaia. At one stage, they stabbed the young woman and fled.

Later, Rubaia was rescued and taken to a local clinic in a serious condition. From there she was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur where doctors declared her dead.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy. However, it was not known why she was killed, the SI said.

Legal action is being taken in this regard, the SI added.
