Tk 3cr toll collected in 24 hours on Bangabandhu Bridge

Bangabandhu Bridge has collected around Tk 3 crore in the last 24 hours due to increased traffic ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
As many as 30,834 vehicles crossed the bridge in the past 24 hours from 12:00 am on Tuesday to 12:00 am on Wednesday after paying Tk 28,872,905 in tolls.
Of them, 15,720 vehicles traversed the bridge from the eastern section, paying Tk 14,026,905 in tolls. Tk 14,246,000 was collected from the 15,114 vehicles that crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge from the western part, officials said.
Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, the executive engineer of the Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office, told the media that the number of vehicles crossing is increasing. "All preparations have been made to ensure that there is no disruption while crossing the bridge," he said.
Nine toll booths have been installed on both ends of the bridge to ease traffic congestion during the Eid. Four additional booths were installed for motorcycles this year. A total of 18 booths are collecting tolls on the Bangabandhu Bridge ahead of Eid, he said.

Meanwhile, a nearly 20 km-long tailback could be seen extending from the Gharinda Bypass in Tangails Sadar Upazila to the Bangabandhu Bridge toll plaza on Tuesday morning.
"The local buses are also stopping along the road, as they usually do, to pick up passengers. This blocks the vehicles behind them, slowing traffic even more," said Mir Md Sajedur Rahman, chief of the Elenga Highway Police Station.
