10 people murdered in nine districts

A total of 10 people have been murdered in separate incidents in nine districts - Natore, Kurigram, Chattogram, Bogura, Pabna, Khagrachhari, Gaibandha, Nilphamari and Bagerhat, in recent times.
GURUDASPUR, NATORE: A physically-challenged man was killed reportedly by his brother-in-law over a land dispute in Gurudaspur Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at around 7:30 am in Bri-Pathuria Village under Chapila Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Jamat Ali, 55, a resident of the aforesaid area.
However, police have arrested the accused and brother-in-law of the deceased Mohammad Lachimuddin Jadu, 65, in connection with the murder.
According to Jameena, mother of the deceased, there was a conflict between Lachimuddin and Jamat over a piece of a land since her husbands death. Lachimuddin, who lived with them after marrying into the family, frequently threatened Jamat Ali to take over the property.
Jamat Ali had been paralysed and suffering from heart disease for the past ten years.
On Wednesday morning, Lachimuddin allegedly entered Jamat Alis room and started beating him mercilessly. He was assisted by his daughter Lipi Khatun, 42, and son Lam Hossain, 23.
Locals rescued Jamat Ali, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital.
Jameena demanded the death penalty for all those involved in her sons murder.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gurudaspur Police Station (PS) Mohammad Ujjal Hossain said on information, police retrieved the body and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Lachimuddin has been arrested and legal proceedings are underway in this regard, the OC added.
FULBARI, KURIGRAM: Police arrested a man reportedly for beating his wife to death Fulbari Upazila of the district recently.
Deceased Rashida Begum, 25, was the wife of Rahimul Islam of Roshan Shimulbari Village under Shimulbari Union in the upazila.
Local said that the couple had an argument recently, which escalated violently. At that time, Rahimul assaulted his wife and forcefully struck her head against a concrete pillar in their house, leading to severe bleeding.
Locals then rushed Rashida to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex, where she received initial treatment before being transferred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for better treatment. But, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to Lalmonirhat.
Rashida Begum, daughter of Rafiqul Islam of Ghogarkuti Village in Barovita Union, was Rahimuls third wife. The couple married four years back and had a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
Rafiqul Islam, father of the deceased, said that Rahimul used to torture his daughter often. He demanded justice over his daughters murder.
Dr Mosha Homaira, medical officer of Fulbari Hospitals emergency department, said that Rashida was brought in critical condition and was referred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for further treatment.
Confirming the matter, Fulbari PS OC Prankrishna Debnath added that police promptly responded and apprehended Rahimul.
The deceaseds father filed a murder case against Rahimul.
Following this, Rahimul was sent to the jail, the OC added.
CHATTOGRAM: A young man was hacked to death by miscreants over previous enmity in Patenga Sea Beach area in the city recently.
The deceased was identified as Md Rafi, 26, a resident of Patenga Bandartila in the city.
It is known that there was a dispute between the two groups over riding a motorcycle in a loud sound.
As a sequel to that, some youths from one group stabbed Rafi indiscriminately with knives near the entrance of Bangabandhu Tunnel, leaving him critically injured.
He was then taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the CMCH morgue for an autopsy.
Sub-Inspector of Patenga PS Kishore Barua confirmed the incident, adding that three people were arrested for questioning in this regard.
BOGURA: An accused in 29 cases was reportedly hacked to death by miscreants in Kahalu Upazila of the district recently.
The incident took place in Porapara area of Muril Union under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Brazil Islam, 34, hailed from Palsha area in Bogura.
Quoting locals, Kahalu PS OC Selim Reza said assailants pursued him on a motorcycle, attacked him with sharp weapons, and left ensuring he was dead.
"We still don know why or who killed Brazil," OC Reza stated.
"While no formal complaint has been filed yet, police are trying to identify the perpetrators," he said.
Brazil had 29 cases in different PSs against him in Bogura including charges of arms, acid terrorism and murder. These cases were under trial.
For the past few years, Brazil lived at his father-in-laws house in Porapara area of Kahalu Upazila.
Local sources said he was involved in Juba Dal politics in Bogura for long. Recently, he was trying to join Awami League (AL) and was seen at various processions and meetings of the party.
PABNA: A local leader of AL was shot to death by miscreants in Sadar Upazila of the district recently.
The incident occurred in Naldah Natun Para area under Varara Union of the upazila.
Deceased Babu Sheikh alias Dak Babu, son of late Ajahar Sheikh, was the former AL president of Ward No. 9 in Giyeshpur Union under the upazila.
It was known that some unidentified miscreants shot Babu when he was having tea at one Jamal Sheikhs shop in the area.
He was then rescued and taken to Pabna General Hospital, where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Pabna Sadar PS OC Roshan Ali.   
PANCHHARI, KHAGRACHHARI: A member of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot to death by his rivals in Panchhari Upazila of the district recently.
The incident occurred in Hatimara area along Indian border under Logang Union.
Deceased Barun Bikash, 55, a resident of the area, was a supporter of UPDF.
UPDF Khagrachari District Unit Organizer Angya Marma said some miscreants entered Baruns house and shot him, leaving him dead on the spot.
However, Angya Marma blamed the Shantu Larma-led Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) for the attack.
Panchhari PS OC Md Shafiul Azam confirmed the incident.
GAIBANDHA: A man was hacked to death by his stepbrother in Gobindaganj Upazila of the district recently over a land dispute.
Deceased Shamsul Huda, 42, son of Hafizar Rahman, was a resident of Talukokanupur Village in the upazila.
He succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital of Bogura while undergoing treatment.
It was known that there had been a longstanding dispute between Hafizar Rahman and his stepbrother Anwarul Islam over land.
Following this, they locked in an altercation in front of Anwaruls house while Shamsul was going to market along with his brother Shahin. At one stage, Anwarul hacked Shamsul and his younger brother Shahin with a machete, leaving them critically injured.
Locals rescued the duo and took them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred them to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College as their condition deteriorated.
Later on, Shamsul was shifted to a private hospital, where he died.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Gobindaganj PS OC Shamsul Alam Shah confirmed the incident, adding that the main accused Anwarul Islam went into hiding.
NILPHAMARI: A woman and her son, who were injured in a clash that broke out over a land dispute in Kishoreganj Upazila of the district, died at a hospital in Rangpur.
Sufala Rani, wife of late Rajani Kanta and her youngest son Prankrishna Roy died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
According to local and police sources, there was longstanding dispute between the deceaseds family and their neighbour Surajit Chandra Roy over a piece of a land. An argument broke out between the two groups when Surajit tried to cultivate the disputed land.
At one stage, they locked into a fight with lethal weapons, leaving four people from both groups critically injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex, where the physicians referred the duo to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. They then succumbed to their injuries there.
Following the incident, Sufala Ranis eldest son Subash Chandra Roy filed a murder case with Kishoreganj PS accusing 20 people.
Later on, police arrested three people for their involvement in the killing, said Kishoreganj PS OC Polash Chandra Mondal.
Efforts are going on to arrest the other accused, the OC added.
BAGERHAT: A rickshaw-puller was killed by miscreants in the district town recently.
Deceased Md Bashar, 22, was the son of A Aziz of Nagerbazar area in the town.
It was known that miscreants killed Bashar and left his body in Rail Road area near Old Railway Station Temple.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Bagerhat Sadar Model PS OC Md Saidur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to arrest those involved in the killing.
