'I've not fled to Singapore, return to country after treatment': Asaduzzaman

Talks have been going on regarding  former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and his family's a dozen of flats, plots, houses and lands in the capital.

Different newspapers have also published reports in this regard. Amid the talks, Asaduzzaman Mia talked about his wealth in a video message on Wednesday.
In a video message given to Banglavsion, Asaduzzaman Mia said: "One or two media which have published the news reports against me were 'untrue, fabricated, excessive and deliberate.' I have no wealth beyond my known sources of income and I or my family does not have any property which has no similarity with my legal income."

Regarding his visit abroad along with his wife, the former DMP commissioner said, "I have been noticing with great anxiety that one or two media have reported that I have fled to abroad after allegations were surfaced against me. It is false, fabricated, baseless and deliberate. In fact, I have come at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore to meet my doctors as per the schedule fixed earlier. After the treatment, I will go back to country on June 22 next, Inshallah."

He also said, "I will submit necessary evidence and information to the proper authorities on my return to the country."

According to media reports, Asaduzzaman Mia's wife owns a plot and two apartments and his daughter owns a flat in Dhaka. His wife and children own 67 decimals of land in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj while his family and kin own 166 decimals of land in these three districts.

Asaduzzaman Mia's wife Afroza Zaman owns a six-storey house on a 10 katha plot of land at 166-167, Lane 1, Block-L at Bashundhra Residential Area in Dhaka. Asaduzzaman Mia said the house was built with a bank loan.

Afroza Zaman also owns an apartment at Eskaton and another at Dhanmondi. The former DMP commissioner admitted it saying they first purchased the Eskaton flat and when their children were admitted to the schools in Dhanmondi they bought another flat in the area for the convenience of children.

Other than this, Asaduzzaman's daughter is the owner of an apartment at Siddeshwari. He said his daughter and son-in-law are physicians and they purchased the apartment with their legally earned income.

A total of 106 decimals of land were purchased in the name of Asaduzzaman Mia's wife Afroza Zaman at Chandkhola mouza of Kaliganj in Gazipur between 2017 and 2019, while another 28 decimal of lands were also purchased in her name at Kaiyamsail-Kayetpara mouza of Rupganj in Narayanganj in 2018 and another 32 decimal was also bought in the same mouza in that year.

Asaduzzaman Mia said those lands were purchased through legally earned income. He and his wife inherited huge properties. One of his sons has a high-paying job at a multinational company and his daughter-in-law works at a bank with a high salary, His wife also runs a boutique.

According to the media reports, the former DMP commissioner himself owns 10 kathas of land at Purbachal in the capital and his family members have 21 kathas in Aftabnagar while his younger son owns a house at Nikunja-1.
