The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Sylhet Education Board have been suspended until July 8 due to ongoing flood in the region.
Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee Chief and also Dhaka Education Board Chairman Tapan Kumar Sarkar told reporters that the decision to suspend the examinations under the Sylhet Education Board was taken at an emergency meeting of the Committee on Thursday.
Tapan said the examinations in the division will be held according to the regular schedule from July 9 and new routines will be issued for the suspended examinations.
This years HSC and equivalent examinations are scheduled to begin nationwide on June 30.
On the other hand, the Education Ministry on Thursday decided to shorten the three-week school holidays for Eid-ul-Azha and the summer break to minimise the academic loss incurred during the heatwave across the country.
Educational institutions will resume classes on June 26 instead of July 2.
Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Mohammad Abul Khaer said the decision was taken at a meeting of the Education Ministry. However, there will be no classes on Fridays and Saturdays.
