A young man was reportedly killed by his rivals during a rural arbitration in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sumon Sheikh, 30, son of Romiz Uddin Sheikh, a resident of Purbo Atpara village in the upazila.
Eyewitnesses said that two brothers, Romiz Uddin Sheikh and Alauddin Sheikh, had been occupying the private space (Khash Zomi) in front of their own land.
Recently, Alauddin Sheikh took lease the land from a broker of land office. As a result, a dispute arose between Romiz Uddin and Alauddin.
On Friday morning, a rural arbitration was held to resolve the issue in front of Atpara Cold Storage. During the arbitration, Alauddin Sheikh along with his associates allegedly attacked Romiz Uddin Sheikh and his sons, leaving them critically injured.
Locals, later, rescued them and took to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as their conditions deteriorated.
Sumon Sheikh succumbed to his injuries at DMCH while undergoing treatment around 10:00 pm.
After the incident, Rowsan Ara Begum, wife of Romiz Uddin, filed a written complaint with Sreenagar Police Station.
Abdullah Al-Tyabir, officer in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station, said that the written complaint has been recorded as a case.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused in this case, the OC added.
