Prices of vegetables fall, chilli, onion, garlic, ginger rise in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 24: After Eid-ul-Azh, the green chilli price rises, reaching  Tk 250 per kilogram (KG) in the district.

Before Eid, per kg chilli was selling at Tk 200 in the district bazaars.

Many vegetable items are coming down, but prices of onion, garlic and ginger increases.

A visit on Saturday to different kitchen markets in the city found most essentials prices on the rise.

Per haali (four pieces) red egg is selling at Tk 48 while white one was selling at Tk 46; potato is selling at Tk 60 per kg, onion at Tk 90, garlic at Tk 240 and ginger at Tk 280 per kg.

A retail vegetable trader at Sahebbazar Yasin Ali said, "I sold chilli at Tk 200 per kg before Eid; but, for the next three days, the chilli has been increasing; as wholesalers are charging higher prices, we have to take higher prices."

But prices of many vegetable items are coming down, he added.

On quality basis per kg brinjal is selling at Tk 30-40, papaya at Tk 30, long bean at Tk 80, carrot at Tk 80, cucumber at Tk 50, okra at Tk 30, sweet pumpkin at Tk 40, ridge gourd and wild snake gourd at Tk 40 each, drum stick at Tk 60, pointed gourd at Tk 40, green chilli at Tk 200, and bottled gourd at Tk 40.

Broiler and Sonali hen prices have come down in markets. This week per kg broiler hen is selling at Tk 180 while Sonali at Tk 300. Beef is selling at Tk 750 and mutton at Tk 1,100 per kg.

Tilapia is selling at Tk 220-240 per kg, Pangus at Tk 200-220, butterfish at Tk 300-350, farmed climbing fish at Tk 300, Ruhi and Katla at Tk 320-350 each,  cultivated stinging cat fish at Tk 480-500, tengra (small catfish) at Tk 500-600, local climbing fish at Tk 600-700, fresh water shark at Tk 700-800, shrimp at Tk 800,  and Shoal (striped snakehead) at Tk 900 per kg.
