Tourist spots in Sylhet reopen

SYLHET, June 24: Following improvements in flood conditions, various tourist spots across Sylhet have started reopening. On Sunday morning (June 23), tourist spots in Goainghat Upazila of Sylhet were reopened to the public. Later in the afternoon, Sadapathar in Companiganj Upazila and Lalakhal in Jaflong Upazila were also made accessible to tourists.

The decision to reopen these spots was confirmed by Sanjit Kumar Chand, UNO of Companiganj Upazila, and Umme Salik Rumaiya, UNO of Jaflong.

During the current monsoon season, tourist spots in Sylhet have been closed twice due to worsen flood situation. Initially, all tourist spots in Sylhet were closed on May 30. Subsequently, they were reopened on June 7 as the flood situation improved. However, they were closed again from June 18 due to a deterioration in flood condition.    —UNB
