First-ever Int'l Open Veteran Athletics begins on Thursday

The country's  first-ever International Open Veteran Athletics Championship organised by Bangladesh Veteran Athlete Association, under the co-operation of Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) begins on Thursday (June 27) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) here.

Some 345 athletes, 60 coaches and officials from six South Asian countries -- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and hosts Bangladesh-- will compete in the 233 events of the three-day meet, UNB reports.
A total of 232 athletes from 33 different teams and organisation will represent Bangladesh in the meet.

President of Bangladesh Masters Athletics Association and the vice president of BAF Advocate Nur Uddin Chowdhury Noyon MP, will inaugurate the three-day meet Thursday afternoon.

BAF EC member Faroqul Islam presided over Thursday's opening ceremony.

The details of the meet were disclosed by the meet organisers at a press conference at the BNS conference room on Tuesday.

BAF general secretary Advocate Abdur Rakib Montu among others,  addressed the day's  press conference.

Veteran men's athletes of 35 to 70 years age groups, divided in eight groups and women's athletes of 35 to 65 years age group, split into seven groups, will compete in the meet.
