A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday conducted search in a pond at Payra Chattar in Jhenaidah to recover three mobile phones used by Awami League leader Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babu to contact with Jhenidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar murder case accused Shimul Bhuiyan on Whatsapp.
Earlier, a DB team led by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch head Harun-or Rashid arrived at Jhenaidah by a helicopter from Dhaka at around 12:00pm on Wednesday (June 26) to recover the mobile phones.
After his arrival, Gas Babu was brought from Jhenidah District Jail. Led by Jhenidah Senior Judicial Magistrate Faruque Azam, searches were carried out in a pond behind Ganguly Hotel adjacent to Payra Chattar with Gas Babu to recover three mobile phones.
During the searches in the pond, divers, Fire Service personnel and fishermen were used. During the searches, law enforcers put a security blanket in place over Jhenidah town.
It may be mentioned that law enforcers arrested Gas Babu from Adarshapara area in Jhenidah town at night on June 6 last. Arrested Babu is Jhenidah District Awami League's Relief and Social Welfare Secretary. He is also a close relative of Shimul Bhuiyan, one of the accused of MP Anwarul Azim Anar murder case.
Jhenidah Sadar Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Shahin Uddin confirmed it saying that the drive was going on.
