College student 'hacked to death' in Jhalakathi

A college student was succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Friday. 

Earlier, he was allegedly hacked by his rivals over land dispute at  at Katakhali Bazar under Galua union in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi district on Thursday afternoon. 

The deceased was identified as Asif Rahman Lyon, son of Shah Alam, a resident of the area. He was a fourth year student of Khula B.L College.

The father of the deceased said that at 4:30 pm on Thursday, a group of 10 to 15 people including Alam Sikdar's son Sajib, Hasan, Likhon, and Coyon attacked Lyon and Anik and with machetes and hacked them indiscriminately in the area, leaving Lyon critically injured. 
He was rescued and taken to Rajapur Health Complex where, the on-duty doctors referred him to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Hospital for better treatment. 

Subsequently, due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred to DMCH, where emergency department doctors declared Lyon dead.

Legal actions will be taken in this regard, said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajapur Police Station.
