PANCHAGARH, June 27: Bhajanpur Degree College beat Barrister Zamiruddin Sarkar Collegiate School and College by 2-1 goals in the district level final game of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Inter-College Gold Cup Football Tournament and became district champion.
The tournament was organized by the district administration and the district sports office in collaboration with the district sports organization, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports held at the Bir Muktijoddha Sirajul Islam Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Abu Taleb of the winning team was adjudged the best goal scorer of the tournament and Arif Hossain Munna of the runner-up team was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahurul Islam witnessed the match and distributed trophies and prize money among the winning and runner-up teams as chief guest. He said, there is no alternative to practice to get success.
We are organizing games consistently. One goal is to create star players. Panchagarh has produced many star players. We want to create more star players in all sports.
Superintendent of Police SM Sirajul Huda was the special guest on the occasion. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zakir Hossain, former General Secretary of District Sports Association Bir Muktijoddha Saikhul Islam, among others in the award distribution ceremony conducted by District Sports Officer Gautam Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department Maqsudul Kabir, Deputy Director of Family Planning Department Sanaullah Noori, District Awami League Vice President Abu Toibur Rahman, Bhajanpur Degree College Principal Shipon Habibur Rahman, Barrister Zamuddin Sarkar Collegiate Institute Principal Ahsan Habib and other teachers, students and football lovers were present.
Nine colleges participated in the tournament. The winner and runner-up teams will be eligible to participate in the divisional level competition.
