Peking duck farm becomes popular at Sadullapur

SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA, June 29: Khandakar Towfikur Tahman Sohag, 45, is a dweller of a solitary village at Bhatgram Union under Sadullapur Upazila of the district.

After completing Diploma engineering course, he would do a job in a private firm. But he left his job and raised a duck farm of Peking species. Already his farm has created sensation in the locality.

A recent visit found his duck farm at Saatbeel of Dakkhin Durgapur area in the upazila; entrepreneur Sohag was seen busy in taking care of his ducks.

He is son of Khandakar Abu Toyeb of Kishamot Sherpur Village at Bongram Union in the upazila.

After quitting his job in 2020, Sohag went back home; then he started fish farming on 11 bighas of land at Saatbeel (water body) in trellis system. He became benefitted a lot.

This year he started the duck farm for producing meat; firstly he reared 350 ducklings at a cost of Tk 65,000. He sold his ducks after 45 days. After adjusting his cost, his income stands at Tk 30,000.

At present, his family is running well on his profits. At the same time, his duck meat is becoming popular among people.

One Azgar Ali who came to see his farm said, "I saw duck farming in pond, canal and beel, but not in room-scaffolding; I am delighted to see Sohag Bhais farm; the meat of his ducks is very tasty; I am also planning to raise such a farm."

A local college principal Amirul Mominin Sagor said, the financial benefit of entrepreneur Sohag is inspiring others; in the poultry industry, Peking duck can open door of immense potential.

Sohag said, "I have raised the farm following another duck farm entrepreneur.  I am running the farm in hard work with firm mind; along with ducks, fishes are also growing; one duckling fledges up to 3-5 kilogram; at present, my monthly profit stands at about Tk 20,000 after excluding cost of feed, medicine, and labour."
He further said, "I have also created employment for some people."    

Veterinary Surgeon of Sadullapur Upazila Livestock Services Dr Abdullahel Kafi said, every planned work brings success; there is no other Peking duck farm in the upazila.

Entrepreneur Sohag will be given advice so that he could be more benefitted, he added.
