A total of 318 sacks of government rice were seized from the house of a union parishad chairman in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district on Saturday night.

The upazila administration found the rice sacks in the house of Soyad Habibur Rahman, uncle of Angaria UP chairman Golam Mortoza Sukkor, while conducting a raid at Zalisa village in the upazila, said Sahin Mahmud, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in the upazila.

UNO Sahin Mahmud said there is no legal procedure to keep government rice outside the union parishad.

Legal actions will be taken in this regard after completing investigation, he added.
UP chairman Golam Mortoza Sukkor said the sacks of rice kept in my house for distributing among Ward number seven, eight, and nine. As they parishad is far away from those wards, so it would be convenient for the people of those wards to take rice from here.
