Two drown in Noakhali, Bhola

An elderly man and a minor child drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Noakhali and Bhola, in two days.

NOAKHALI: A farmer drowned in the Meghna River in Hatiya Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Md Sekantor Hossain, 62, a resident of Ward No. 5 under Nijhum Dwip Union in the upazila.

It was known that Sekantor Hossain drowned while he along with five others was crossing a channel in the river near Domarsor to see their farmland at around 10 am.

Later on, locals recovered his body from the river adjacent to Domarsor area after one and a half hours of attempts.

Mehraj Uddin, former chairman of Nijhum Dwip Union Parishad and grandson of the deceased, confirmed the incident.

Sub-Inspector of Hatiya Police Station (PS) Joynal Abedi said, "We did not know about this matter but we are trying to know about it."

MONPURA, BHOLA: A minor boy drowned in a canal in Monpura Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Limon, 4, son of Saiful, a resident of Rahmanpur Village under Dakshin Sakuchia Union in the upazila.

Local and the deceaseds family sources said Limon fell in the Chokkar Canal in front of his house at around 8 pm while playing on its bank, and drowned there.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monpura PS Jahirul Islam said on information, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as no complaint was lodged from them.

However, an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard, the OC added.

The child was, later, buried at his family graveyard on Saturday morning.
