A Chattogram court has sentenced a man to death in a case over killing his wife in Bakolia area of the city in 2022.
Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Court Judge Begum Jebunnesa on Wednesday passed the verdict in presence of the convict. The court also fined the convict Tk 50, 000, in default of which he will have to suffer six months’ more jail
The convict is Md Jamal, 35, son of late Jonab Ali in Musagara village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla.
According to the case statement, Jamal and his wife Parvin Akter got married in 2020. They lived in a shanty of Bastuhara Colony in Bakolia area of the city. They often locked into altercation over family issues.
On January 17 in 2022, Jamal strangled her wife to death. Later, after a call for National Emergency Service-999, police recovered the Parvin's body wrapped in a blanket wrapped her rented house at the colony area in the night.
Later, the victims sister garments worker Baby Akter, as the plaintiff, lodged a case with Bakalia Police Station accusing Jamal.
Police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against the convicted on July 25, 2022.
After examining records and hearing 13 witnesses, Judge Begum Jebunnesa delivered the verdict.
