Court orders seizure of  assets of Customs officials Enamul, Matiur

A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the authorities concerned to attach land and flats of Mohammed Enamul Hoque, Commissioner of Sylhet Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate,  worth about Tk 9.76 crore.

On the same day the same court ordered attachment of four flats and 866 decimals of immovable property owned by  Matiur Rahman, former member of the National Board of Revenue, and his family members following ACC prayer in connection with corruption allegations against him.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the both the orders, accepting the prayers of the ACC.

In the corruption case against Sylhet Customs Commissioner Mohammed Enamul Hoque, the court ordered the authorities concerned to attach the land and flats worth about Tk. 9.76 crore.

Enamuls property which will be attached are three Katha land at Joarshahara in Gulshan, 33 decimal land at Khikhet, 1,170 square feet flat, 1,834 square feet flat with car parking facility, 1,900 and 3,800 square feet flats with car parking facilities located at Kakrail area, five katha land at Gazipur, 4,000 sq feet open space at three commercial Bhavans at Mohammadpur, 10,965 square feet space at a Bhavan at Mohammadpur, 2428 square feet flat at Gulshan and four Katha land at Badda.

Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said the anti-graft body filed the case against Enamul for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 9.76 crore.

The ACC during its probe learned that the accused is trying to sell or hand over the properties bought by money earned through corruption.

 If the accused manages to hand over the properties, ACCs   goal of seizing the properties under the state would be hampered, the ACC counsel added. Mohammed Enamul Hoque was the officer of 13th batch BCS taxation cadre.

While Matiur Rahmans property which will be attached are located at Bashundhara Residential Area and Dhanmondi in Dhaka, Muladi in Barishal and Raipura in Narsingdi.

The family members are Laila Kaniz Lucky, Matiurs wife and also the upazila parishad chairman of Narsingdis Raipura; Matiurs son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnob, his daughter Farzana Rahman Ipshita and his second wife Shammi Akhter Sheuly.

The court passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Director Md Anowar Hossain, also the enquiry officer, applied to the court in this regard.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved the application on behalf of the anti-graft watchdog.

 Earlier on June 24, the same court issued a travel ban on Motiur, his wife Laila and son Taufiqur.
