Farmer Salema Khatun becomes solvent at Dhamoirhat

DHAMOIRHAT, NAOGAON, July 5: A housewife Salema Khatun of Chaksuibol Village in Dhamoirhat Upazila of the district has been solvent by cultivating vegetables.

This success has assisted her in getting rid of lifes hardship.

After receiving training on vegetable farming and financial assistance, she started her vegetable cultivation. Her first time vegetable farming success has also attracted our women; they are showing interest in following her.

Salema Khatun was knotted with Rezwan Hossain of that village at the age of 10. She is now 39. Her fathers home is in Dhantarah Village of neighbouring Umar Union.

Her family is constituted of her husband, one son and one daughter. Her husband was only earner of the family.  They do not have any property other than the living home.

Her husband was used to cultivate crops on contract land. Considering their family hardship, she took the initiative of vegetable farming.

He became introduced with Agamir Pathe Programme Coordinator of CWFD-Dhamoirhat Branch of Mangalbari Rehena Parvin.

She was included in the 20-member Chandra Mallika Team of the Agamir Pathe Programme.

Later on, she was trained up accordingly to cultivate vegetables. After the training, she was given Tk 30,000 in two phases.
Salema Khatun firstly cultivated bitter gourd and got success.

She said, "I took contract of 12.5 decimal lands beside my home; I cultivated bitter gourd; and I got an earning of Tk 25,000 excluding costs from the sale of bitter gourd."

"Later on, I cultivate chilli. I also got success from chilli. Now I took contract of one acre land for potato farming. I got Tk 1.5 lakh profit from potato sale," she added.

Then she cultivated Boro paddy on 1.5 acre of contract land and got a huge profit. Now she purchased 14 decimal lands by that profit money.

She has already married her daughter. Her son is studying in Class Ten in a local school.

She had come out of their hardship living in only two years. Now she is preparing to cultivate watermelon in the next year.
