KISHOREGANJ, July 7: Divers from Kishoreganj Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the body of a university student, who had been missing since Friday afternoon after he drowned in a haor, from Hasanpur Haor under Karimganj Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abidur Rahman, 23, son of Professor Sorawer Zaman, hailed from Raozan Upazila in Chattogram District. He was a student of a private university in Dhaka.
Enamul Haque, deputy director of Kishoreganj Fire Service, said Abidur Rahman along with his eight friends came to visit the haor from the capital on Friday. Abidur suddenly drowned in the haor and went missing near Hasanpur bridge area of Karimganj Upazila when they were getting down from a trawler in the afternoon.
On information, a team of divers from Fire Service rushed to the scene and began searching operation in the haor. On Saturday afternoon, the body of the student was recovered from the haor.
The body of the university student was, later, handed over to police, Kishoreganj Fire Service Deputy Director Enamul Haque added.
Officer-in-Charge of Karimganj Police Station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the body of the deceased has been sent to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
