Expressing frustration over the recent oppressive activities of the authorities concerned, the dairy farmers claimed that the oppressive activities have interrupted the activities in this sector and hampered production of meat, beef and milk for the mass people.
While talking to this correspondent, some dairy farmers told that most of the farmers were unable to sell meat and milk during the Covid-19 pandemic period. The Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA) had come forward and started selling those through mobile sales centers.
Responding to the recent drives of the authorities concerned including the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at countrys different dairy farms including the Sadeeq Agro, they expressed the frustration.
They said that due to the activities of the BDFA, mass people and farmers were benefited and they could survive from major disaster. The government had supplied some cattle, but most activities were conducted by the farmers. They are now being repressed without any major reason, they claimed.
They also claimed that the oppressive activities have interrupted the operational activities in this sector and hampered production of meat, beef and milk for the mass people.
However, the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) also claimed it had given a total of 448 cows, weighing around 70,000 kilogram live weight, to supply 35,000 kg of meat to the consumers through the supervision of the DLS authority under its mobile sales centers during the month of holy Ramadan last.
The DLS had given the cows to Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA) to sell the meat through its members under the governments book value method. Against the live weight cows, BDFA members supplied total 1,16,843 kg of beef and 3,632 meat in the market, according to BDFA and DLS officials.
According to the officials, the agreement was signed between the DLS and BDFA, not with the Sadeeq Agro of Mohammdpur in Dhaka. The BDFA members have supplied the rest of cows and goats and met the expenses of processing, carrying, and selling the meat and beef.
But, the Anti-Corruption Commission was informed that the cows were supplied to the Sadeeq Agro and the ACC has been operating drives basis on the wrong information. Sadeeq Agros owner Imran Hossain is the president of the BDFA.
While talking to this correspondent, Moloy Kumar Shur, director of the DLS, said that they have given the cows to the BDFA following the legal process to sell meat and beef to the general people during the month of Ramadan. Sadeeq Agro was not involved with the process.
