The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has proposed providing financial assistance of Tk 100 crore to help Bangladesh in developing skilled workers, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury has said.
"KOICA has proposed financial assistance for the modernisation of the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre in Chattogram and the development of demand-driven skilled manpower," the state minister added.
He was holding a courtesy meeting with a visiting KOICA delegation at the ministry in Dhaka on Sunday (July 7).
"We consider this proposal favourable and have urged all concerned to work promptly towards its implementation," he further said.
Highlighting the significance of Korea's support, the state minister said, "Such cooperation from Korea will make our technical training centres more contemporary and effective in developing our manpower efficiently."
KOICA was founded as a government agency on April 1, 1991, to maximise the effectiveness of South Korea's development assistance for developing countries by implementing the grant aid and technical cooperation programmes.
