RU students block rail line

Rajshahi University (RU) students took position on rail line and started demonstration there demanding cancellation of the High Court order to reinstate 30 per cent quotas for freedom fighters' children and grandchildren in government job.

Around 12noon on Monday, the agitating students sit-on under a flyover near the university's Arts Faculty and starting chanted different slogans against quotas.

Before blocking the rail line, the students of all halls gathered at Paris Road at 11am. Later, they went to block the rail line with a large procession after parading different spots of the university that caused to halt vehicular movement from Vodra to Khorkhori Bypass.

Mushfiq Moin, a student of Islamic Studies Department of the university, said that an extreme discrimination like quota has been imposed on us again. Our ancestors did not accept this discrimination, we will also not accept it.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday dismissed the movement against the quota system in the government jobs as irrational saying, "It is a sub-judice."
