A Joypurhat court has sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a child in 2000.
Joypurhat Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 judge Md Nurul Islam passed the verdict on Wednesday in presence of three convicts. The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default, have to serve two more years in jail.
The convicts are – Ekabbar Ali, son of Yusuf Ali of Hindapanch Khupi village of Khetlal upazila of the Joypurhat district, Shafiqul Islam, son of Solaiman Ali, and his brother Abdul Motin. The absconding convict is Tofazzal Hossain, son of Asad Ali of Hazipur village of Kalai upazila. The court has issued arrest warrant against Tofazzel.
According to case documents, on March 25, 2000, the child Reyad went missing from his home. Later, Abdul Motin told Belal Talukder, maternal uncle of Reyad, that if Belal gave him Tk 1 lakh, he will find out Reyad.
In this regard, Belal gave Tk 10,000 to Motin in advance but on March 27, police found the body of Reyad from a ditch in the village.
Following the incident, Belal filed a case with the Khetlal Police Station and after investigation police submitted a charge sheet against the accused.
