Six people, including Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, were placed on five-day remand in a case filed over obstructing police in discharging their duties and causing damage to the properties.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Wednesday as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded for seven-day remand.
The accused are— Jamaat Ameer Dr Abdullah Md Taher, 65, Dr Md Saleh Uddin Sayeed, 59, Kamrul Ahsan Ripon, 50, Alhaj Md Mobarak Hossain, 73, Mohammad Ali, 45, and Mehedi Hasan, 22.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Qamrul Islam of Dhanmandi Police Station filed the case against the Jamaat leaders for damaging iron lampposts and railings in Shankar Bus Stand area, vandalising a pickup truck and later torching the vehicle there.
