Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) on Wednesday expressed deep concern over dropping quotas for women in government jobs.

BNSK and BMP demanded restoration of quotas for women in government jobs for the sake of women empowerment and the country's development.

In a joint statement, BNSK President Nasimun Ara Haque Minu and General Secretary Shahnaz Siddiqui Soma said dropping quotas for women and underdeveloped districts was undesirable.

The BNSK said the decision to scrap quotas for women in government jobs will impede women empowerment when a half of the country's  population is women.

In a joint statement, BMP President Fawzia Moslem and General Secretary Maleka Banu said dropping of quotas for women would hamper national progress.
