Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested around more 148 people in Dhaka city area on Friday in connection with recent incidents of violence.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested nearly another 148 people, in its drives across the country from Wednesday night to Thursday noon.
The Rapid Action Battalion says it has arrested 266 people in connection with the nationwide violence surrounding the quota protest movement.
Sixty-three people were arrested in Dhaka for recent incidents of sabotage, violence, and arson, the law enforcers said on Friday. Another 203 were arrested by RAB units in different districts. On Thursday, RAB had announced the arrests of 228 people in connection with the violence.
RAB said in a previous statement that criminals attempted to use children and youths while they attempted to block roads and wreak havoc through violence and vandalism. When law enforcers arrived at the scene, they were blocked and obstacles were put in their way.
RAB says that, in the interest of public safety, to protect life and property and to disperse criminals, RAB helicopters used gas and sound grenades, but did not use firearms.
Five more cases have been filed against students centring different programmes held during the quota reform movement on Friday.
Meanwhile, around 2,357 people were arrested in 209 cases filed with different police stations under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) over the last few days.
