Setu Bhaban, MRT, BTV Vandalism Cases

Nur sent to jail, 6 remanded, Tuku, Parwar sent to jail

Former Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) vice-president Nurul Haque Nur was sent to jail by a Dhaka Court on Friday after a five-day remand in a case filed over an arson attack on Setu Bhaban in Dhaka on July 18.

Another Dhaka Court placed six persons on a five-day remand in a case filed for Metro Rail Station sabotage act in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arabia Khanam passed the order after DB Inspector Md Asaduzzaman Munshi who is investigating the case, produced the six with a prayer to grant a ten-day remand each.
 The same court on Friday sent  six   BNP, Jamaat leaders including BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku and former Jamaat leader  Mia Golam Parwar  to jail after  a five-day remand each in a case  filed with  Rampura Police  Station  for vandalizing and setting fire to  BTV Rampura Centre.

Some 302 BNP-Jamaat men were sent to jail by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka on Friday in various cases filed over recent anti quota protest incidents.

Some 18 BNP-Jamaat men were placed on several days of remand in different sabotage cases filed with Shahbag, Mirpur, Dhanmondi, Khilgaon and Keraniganj police stations.

Nurul Haque Nur, now member-secretary of Gano Adhikar Parishad was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahamed's court after completion of his five-day remand.

On July 21, a Dhaka court placed Nur, on a five-day remand in the case filed over an arson attack on Setu Bhaban.
On July 18, nearly 250 to 300 unidentified people stormed the Setu Bhaban, vandalised many vehicles, motorbikes and ransacked different sheds and rooms. They later set those on fire.

The six remanded persons in Metro Rail Station sabotage act case are Hafiz Al Asad, Sanaul Haque Niru, Mohammad Amagir, Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Abdul Aziz Sultan and Mohammad Maeen.

On July 19 five to six thousand people attacked Kazipara Metro Rail Station during Anti Quota movement and conducted a massive acts of vandalism. They destroyed and looted valuable machineries and equipment of Metro Rail Station and conducted sabotage acts in Dhaka.

On July 21 BNP  standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and  Dhaka District BNP  Secretary  Nipun Roy Chawdhury were placed on a three-day remand  and six   BNP , Jamaat leaders including BNP Publicity Secretary  Sultan Salauddin Tuku and former Jamaat leader  Mia Golam Parwar  were placed  on a five-day remand each  in a case  filed with  Rampura Police  Station  for vandalizing and setting fire to  BTV Rampura Centre.

Amid student's ongoing quota reform movement, some miscreants did acts of sabotage, vandalized and set fire to Rampura TV Centre on July 18 at night. In this connection police filed a case with Rampura Police Station against 200 unnamed people on Friday.

On Thursday Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Manzu) Andaleeve Rahman Partho and businessman Rezaul Hasanat David were placed on a five-day remand each in a case filed over vandalism and setting fire on Setu Bhavan in Banani.
On Wednesday late night a DB team arrested Partho from his Gulshan residence.

At least 204 protesters, law enforcers, pedestrians including three journalists were killed and several hundred protesters and law enforcers were injured in last few days across the country including Dhaka in clashes between miscreants, law enforcers and activists of ruling Awami League during the student's ongoing quota reform movement.
