Tourism businesses collapse at Kaptai

KAPTAI, RANGAMATI, July 27: All tourism businesses collapsed in Kaptai Upazila of the district due to current political stalemate in the country.

Recreation centres are remaining  idle  in the upazila. Their owners are set to count huge  losses.

Md Sarwar Hossain, director  of Nisorga Pod House & Restaurant, the biggest tourism centre at Kaptai, said, their tourism centre has been zero of tourists; all bookings were cancelled; the businesses collapsed;  about 30 labourers/ employees are sitting idle; but they are being paid of salaries.

"If the situation is not restored, there will be no option but to close the business forever," he added. 

He further said, all recreation centres including that of BGB, Navy and Army are in the same condition.

No tourist wants to come taking life-risk, he maintained.

ASM Mahiuddin Chowdhury Mishu, director of Prashanti Park belonging to the Department of Forest-Kaptai, said, in the last one week even a single ticket was not sold.

Some locals said, "We are not going out."
