Life returning to normal

As a result of government's prompt and timely actions, bustling city life has started to return to normal after a sense of doom created allegedly by the anti-liberation forces over the past two weeks across the country.

People were back to work on Wednesday as all government, semi-government, autonomous and private offices of the country begun normal office hours from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Most importantly, full access to the Internet started with all social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Whatsapp services running in full swing all over the country.

Moreover, curfew has been relaxed to a minimum period of time. In Dhaka city, it will be in place from 8 pm until 7 am in the morning. In other major cities and regions, curfew timing has been cut to a few hours to facilitate smooth movement of people and hassle-free transportation of essential commodities throughout the country.

Earlier, on July 19, the government was impelled to impose curfew and call out armed forces to support civil administration to bring back peace and stability after marauding hordes of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat activists went berserk, torching and destroying key government structures which represent landmark development of the incumbent government.

Country's political situation is likely to calm down further with government's historic decision to ban the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in the country.

Jamaat which has long been a real thorn in the flesh of the nation has regained its strength and become a player in our political arena under the covert support of BNP. In fact, BNP founder, Ziaur Rahman, had rehabilitated the Jamaat after the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

BNP supremo Begum Khalida Zia went one step ahead when Jamaat leaders were inducted into the cabinet during her two terms in the governments from 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006. What is unfortunate is that BNP still doesn't wean itself off Jamaat despite the fact that it is a proven militant and anti-liberation force.
Judged by recent violent activities it is now clear that these anti-state forces' one and only agenda was to destabilize the country through which they would fish in troubled waters by toppling the government in an undemocratic path which they have long been cherishing to come.

Quota reform movement by the students was thought by those undemocratic forces as an opportune moment to implement their coveted agenda. This is why they tried to use the peaceful movement as a means of their weapon by turning it into violence and accordingly they unleashed horrific destructions on some very critical government installations like Bangladesh Television, Internet Data Center, Metro Rail station and Narsingdi prison.

But their ill intention has turned out to be a fool's errand. It did not come to fruition because of government's timely measures supported by the people from all strata.
