Illegal current nets seized in Barishal

BARISHAL, Aug 2: About 1.5 lakh metres of illegal current nets were seized in Hizla Upazila of the district.

Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mohammad Alam confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning.

He said that on information, a joint team of the upazila administration, Upazila Fisheries Department and Hizla Naval Police conducted a drive in Purbakandi area of Harinathpur, and seized 1,43,500 metres of illegal current nets worth about Tk 7.5 lakh.

Later on, a mobile court led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Yasin Sadeq fined one Suraiya Hawalader Tk 1,000 for hoarding the nets. 

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Hizla Naval Police Jahirul Haque and Assistant SI Shahinur Rahman were also present during the drive.
